Brendan Hyland

Brendan Hyland is an engineer and technology entrepreneur with more than 30 years’ experience in instrumentation and control, communications, sensing and subsea technology. He began his career as an MoD-sponsored student engineer before working in industrial process control, technology consultancy and instrumentation. He founded Kymata in 1998, focused on planar optical components for fibre-optic networks, and WFS Technologies in 2003, focused on underwater wireless communications for defence and offshore applications. At WFS he led programmes with the US Office of Naval Research and established its US defence operation in Washington, DC. He founded Ocean Information Services (OIS) in 2021, focused on long-life subsea sensing and communications systems. Recent work includes the continuous pipeline walking monitoring system deployed on TotalEnergies’ CLOV3 development and presented at OMAE 2026.
