Dr Corlia van der Walt is Director: Partnerships, Legal & Compliance at AstraZeneca UK, where she works across AI governance, data privacy, legal risk, and strategic contracting in support of responsible innovation in R&D. She brings more than 15 years of legal experience across the pharmaceutical, life sciences, and higher education sectors, with particular expertise in AI, data use, privacy, compliance, and cross-border governance. Corlia holds LLB, LLM, and LLD degrees and is CIPP/E and CIPP/US certified. Her work spans complex multi-jurisdictional issues across the UK, Europe, the US, Canada, China, and South Africa, helping organisations translate evolving legal and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable frameworks. Before joining AstraZeneca, she held senior legal leadership roles at the University of Cambridge and the University of Johannesburg, where she built and led legal and contracting functions and supported research, innovation, and data-driven collabora
