Diego Oyarzún

Diego Oyarzún is Head of ML Engineering at the Generative Biology Institute, Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford, and Professor of Computational Biology at the University of Edinburgh. At EIT Oxford, he drives the AI and machine learning strategy, infrastructure, and innovation in synthetic biology across the organisation. His research sits at the intersection of biology, mathematics, and computation, with a special focus on sequence-to-function prediction and optimisation. Diego has advised various UK government units and has had roles with global multi-stakeholder bodies such as the World Economic Forum and the OECD, particularly in relation to biotechnologies, AI strategy & policy, and horizon scanning of emerging tech and the bioeconomy.
