Favour Alexander Samuel is the President of NUS England and the first international student to hold the role. A human rights lawyer of Nigerian heritage, she was raised in Johannesburg, South Africa where she obtained her legal qualification. Her experience as a lawyer and international student in the UK has shaped her conviction that education is a right and that students must have a voice in the decisions that affect them. She holds a postgraduate degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham, where she went on to serve as President of the Students’ Union. Her work is grounded in international human rights law and in Ubuntu, the South African philosophy that “I am because we are.” As NUS England President, she represents students across England on higher education policy, international student rights, cost of living, housing, women’s safety etc, guided by the belief that every student has a non-negotiable right to a dignified education.
