Gernot Bonkat

Prof. Bonkat studied medicine at the universities of Munich and Würzburg, Germany. He completed his urology residency at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. In 2021 he has been appointed as professor of urology at the University Basel. Since 2016 he works as head physician at the alta uro AG in Basel. Prof. Bonkat is active member of various urological societies. He is strongly committed to research with a special focus on new and rapid diagnostics in urinary tract infections as well as urogenital tuberculosis. In 2012 he worked as an associate researcher at the Department of Urology at the Tygerberg Hospital, South Africa. In 2015 he has been appointed as chairman of the EAU Guideline panel on Urological infections. Prof. Bonkat is author of more than 250 articles, book chapters and congress abstracts. He is married and father of one daughter.
