Giandomenico Turchiano

Dr. Giandomenico Turchiano is an Associate Director at AstraZeneca and an Honorary Group Leader at University College London / Great Ormond Street Hospital. A translational scientist specializing in genetic therapies, he focuses on developing and enhancing the safety and efficiency of gene editing platforms. Dr. Turchiano’s research spans primary human stem and immune cells, where he developed analytical methodologies including CAST-seq, TQ-rhAmpSeq, and CLEAR-time dPCR to profile DNA repair dynamics and genotoxicity. His group's characterization of structural variants and post-editing mutation rates has helped inform regulatory frameworks, including recommendations by the FDA and MHRA, to support preclinical safety assessments and IND filings.
