Ian Lumsden

Ian Lumsden is Arup’s Digital Services Group Leader for the UKIMEA, responsible for shaping and leading digital services across the built environment. He leads a multidisciplinary team of more than 200 specialists, delivering digital advisory, data and AI, geospatial and technology-led solutions to support infrastructure and asset‑intensive clients. Drawing on three decades of experience delivering major engineering programmes and leading complex, multi‑disciplinary projects, Ian’s work is grounded in deep domain expertise and informed by the real‑world constraints of time, cost, quality, and governance that shape how complex assets and infrastructure are delivered. He focuses on helping organisations apply emerging technologies, particularly AI, in responsible, practical, and value‑driven ways, working closely with clients to move from experimentation to scaled adoption and embedding digital and AI capabilities into everyday delivery and decision‑making.
