James Stephenson
Founder, Variomis
After a PhD in molecular medicine, James spent 5 years in Hawaii and California as a postdoctoral fellow at NASA researching the origin of life. He then joined the Sanger Institute to work on a project concerning ligand binding in proteins before focusing on Bioinformatics at EBI and founding Variomis. Variomis illuminates the 'Dark Variome’, the hidden genetic diversity of the global population, to de-risk drug development, transforming preclinical target selection into a more predictive, inclusive process that yields better drugs for more people, reducing late-stage failures and delivering equitable medicine at scale.
