Linda Oyama

Senior Lecturer In Microbiomics, Amr & One Health, Queen's University Belfast

Dr Linda Boniface Oyama is a Senior Lecturer in Microbiomics, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and One Health at Queen’s University Belfast, where she leads the AMR & One Health Laboratory within the Institute for Global Food Security, and School of Biological Sciences. Her research investigates how microbial communities can be explored to understand antimicrobial resistance and uncover new approaches to infection treatment. A major focus of her work is the discovery of antimicrobial peptides from microbiomes using culture-dependent, meta-omic and computational approaches. Her group evaluates these peptides against important bacterial and fungal pathogens, with emphasis on antimicrobial combinations, resistance development, mechanisms of action, biofilm control and therapeutic translation. Her research spans animal, food, human, and environmental systems and aims to connect microbial ecology with practical solutions for antimicrobial chemotherapy. Linda is Network Lead of the UKRI’s
