Lucy Hughes

Lucy Hughes is Founder and COO of MarinaTex, developing natural polymer coatings and films as sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics across packaging and agriculture. A designer by training, Lucy learned materials science through building the company from the ground up, working with experienced scientists, packaging partners and regulatory experts to turn research into market-ready solutions. Driven by the conviction that products shouldn't damage the environment, Lucy has guided MarinaTex through multiple stages of development, proving that genuine sustainability and material performance aren't in conflict. A National and International James Dyson Award winner (2019) and Royal Academy of Engineering Ambassador and Enterprise Fellow (2025), her work centers on making sustainable materials the default choice across the industry.
