Roger Welaratne

Roger is the CEO of SMBC Aero Engine Leasing (“SAEL”) based in Amsterdam. SAEL is a subsidiary of SMFL (Japan) and a sister company of SMBC Aviation Capital and specializes in spare engine financing and long-term engine leasing with a portfolio of 120 new and current generation engines. Roger is a 30-year engine leasing veteran and joined SAEL 6 years ago and has helped SAEL grow into a top tier Engine Lessor with a focus on New Generation engines. Prior to moving to the Netherlands, Roger lived in Ireland for over 25 years leading Shannon Engine Support and GECAS engine leasing. Roger started his career at Snecma, now Safran, at the design office after graduating as an Aeronautical Engineer. Roger is French and enjoys travelling and motorsport racing.
