Sara Robertson

Sara Robertson is Chief Executive of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI), the UK professional membership body for translators and interpreters, which marks its 40th anniversary in 2026. Since joining ITI in 2023, she has led its work on professional standards, the responsible use of AI in language services and public advocacy for languages in UK education and business. Previously, Sara was Chief Executive of the Institute of Conservation (Icon), and her earlier career was in architecture and building conservation. Having come to the language sector from outside it, she brings a practical, client’s- eye view of why expert communication matters and what it costs when it goes wrong. She speaks regularly at international conferences on the future of the translation and interpreting professions. Sara is Chair of Historic Buildings and Places, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and of the International Institute for Conservation.
