Yaoyu Zhang

Yaoyu joined PetroChina International (PCI) in 2019 and is currently the Assistant CEO and Global Head of LNG &New Energies. Since joining the company, he successfully concluded a number of LNG long-term SPAs as well as price reviews; he spearheaded the creation and development of the carbon trading business and is leading the China ETS trading, launched in July 2021 from PCI in support of CNPC group’s carbon compliance. Prior to joining PetroChina, Yaoyu’s career started in Shell, U.K in 2009. Over a decade, he has held a number technical and commercial positions in the UK, Netherlands, Qatar and Singapore, worked across the gas value chain with experiences covering LNG projects development, M&A and gas trading and marketing. Yaoyu graduated from University of Cambridge with master’s degree in Technology and Policy and Heriot-Watt University with bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering (First-Class Honours).
