The Weizmann Institute of Science
Prof. Eran Elinav, M.D., Ph.D. is a microbiome researcher, heading the Department of Systems Immunology, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel and the Microbiome & Cancer division, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Germany. Elinav focuses on deciphering the molecular basis of host-microbiome interactions and their effects on health and disease, with a goal of personalizing medicine and nutrition. Elinav is credited with multiple microbiome-related biomedical discoveries, including: personalized nutrition, establishing the ‘precision nutrition’ field; circadian microbiome behavior and biomedical implications; Microbiome-reactive innate immune sensors, including the NLRP6 and NLRP10 inflammasomes; microbiome-modulated compounds impacting noncommunicable diseases (such as obesity and ALS); Vaginal microbiome transplantation (VMT) for treatment of bacterial vaginosis; and phage combination therapy for targeted suppression of microbiome-modulated non-communicable disease (such a
